A little bit of history: Mordubian 1999

January 2nd, 2012

An unusual post for an unusual guest.

Der Sucher und die Finsternis.mp3

Nikola Vitkovic, the keeper of NAUK (http://www.nauk.rs/) dedicated his recent life to endless (and I must say reckless) quest for his own sense of musica ficta - outsider music created in the flow of 90′s in Serbia, years now lost and forgotten, even in the minds of a few of us who participated in its creation with no knowledge of it whatsoever.

From my own perspective I would describe that time as a decade of wars and games, aggression and emotion, endless nights and hopes, a solar eclipse, displacement in every direction, and the perverse beauty of it – being a witness of things that a soul can never put into words without reshaping the already heavily faceted truth. As if there was any truth in the eye of beholder anyway.

Coming back to the subject of this post – Mordubian. It’s a sketchbook, nothing more, nothing less, a back projection of that age, my own, and a friend of mine’s. We were younger, and we just broke out of the vibrant decade that I’ve mentioned earlier. We had only a few instruments, limited technology, but therefore a pile of pen and paper accessories, readily filled out with numerous writings, fragmented and vignetted with drawings and phone numbers. Like in Aelfrice our time stood still.

NAUK(http://www.nauk.rs/) has collected most of the recordings I thought were lost, and put them together into a… well, sketchbook of a kind. As it is. As it always has been. Thank you Nikola for your time and efforts. This discovery means nothing to the most, and a lot to a few.

For a handful of you wanting to know more, I don’t blame you if you don’t, this was long before BLAME, this was even some years before Endymion, here is the door to the library of NAUK http://www.nauk.rs/mordubian.html

Protozoa browser demo – 2011 production

January 2nd, 2012

One of the things I did in 2011 was the first js/html5 demo I’ve ever written. I was challenged to say: ‘and the last’. Not quite sure how I forgot to post it up here, but better now than never – you may even consider it to be a New Year gift.

If you have anything like Opera, FireFox 4+, IE 9+, or Chrome, then you should watch it live:

In case you suffer from a poor, incompatible browser, incapable of rendering canvas elements, you can resort to a poorer (but still acceptable) solution:

Additionally, here are the release notes about the product, for the ones interested in knowing more about it http://almagest.modmancer.com/protozoa/agt-protozoa.txt

Dogs Of War amigaremix

June 19th, 2011

Ah those memories.. it’s been a while since I destroyed my last joystick playing Dogs Of War. Somewhere in 2008 I woke up with the sound of David Whittaker’s majestic tune in my mind, light years away from the past I so much enjoyed, so I decided to give it a try, and revisit it my own way. There is no apex, there is no blood rage, just a cool anticipation of the mission ahead.
Special thanks to Ancient of Almagest, and Ziko for feeling brave enought to revisit the game in UAE and capture their failure.
